The Chasseport was used between 1866 and 1974 and was the main French Infantry’s primary service weapon. The Gras was standard issue until 1889 but saw action in WWII in some cases.The better known Chassepot was made famous as the the standard rifle and bayonet issued during the Franco Prussian War of 1870 – 1871 War in the early 20th century. Now you can display your 1866 Chassepot Bayonet or 1874 Gras on this new museum quality upright stand for a totally unique display. The stand is made to simulate the characteristics of the barrel mount, sight and lug of the Modele Chassepot and Model Gras 1874. The bayonet was mounted on the side of the barrel as opposed to the typical underneath mount for most bayonets. The bayonet w/ Scabbard option uses this detail in the Lug base. If you order the basic stand with barrel on a 5 x 7 plaque/no Scabbard you’ll receive a standard lug base as shown in the pics. You bayonet mounts to the lug and locks in in the same way it would on the original. You have to push the release button to disengage it.
